Collaboration with Uniqlo Singapore

I was appointed the lettering designer for the Japanese fast fashion brand, Uniqlo last August. This campaign was launched in celebration of the 54th Singapore National Day 2019 and Uniqlo’s 10th year anniversary since it’s first opening in Singapore.

The brief was to create 10 designs symbolising Singapore’s transformation from the earlier days. These 10 districts/towns are one of the most iconic places in Singapore. Be sure to visit these spots next time when you’re around!

You can order these T-shirts from the Uniqlo Flagship store in Orchard Central. Select the designs on the iPad and have them printed onto your blank T-shirt! Price ranges from S$24.90 (Kids) and S$29.90 (Adult Unisex)

The inspiration behind this came with a mixture of old vintage hand painted signs and iconic landmarks of that particular area in Singapore. I found a good mix in between those two elements and designed these letters in such treatment.

For example - Bedok town features the famous ‘Bak Chor Mee’ noodles. Toa Payoh, featuring the ever so famous ‘Dragon playground’. Iconic symbols like this were mixed with my own lettering styles to make it unique. Serangoon is derived from the famous food center, ‘Chomp Chomp’. The design also has Two fun-bites taken away from the lettering design.

You can see some of the process of the lettering creation here in a post on my Instagram

There are some media coverages on this and it was the first time I was interviewed by the Singapore media channels, Mothership.sg and also Business Insider, SG.

Here’s me posing with one of my favourite designs for Serangoon!

I was so happy to have worked with the great marketing team in Uniqlo SG and hope to have this chance again in the near future!
