Sign painting workshop x The General Co.
I had the honour to run a basic sign painting workshop with The General Co. This workshop is in collaboration with Connoisseurs of Craft programme for The Balvenie. In this workshop, students will get a chance to experience hands-on sign painting session.
A sign only has one function, to be clear and legible on what you are offering. It needs to give the first impression of what are you selling/offering. You can pretty much see signs anywhere on the streets. From large building shop fronts, to moving vehicles.
For this workshop, each participants will be briefed on the idea behind sign painting and how to prepare the materials in order to paint a sign.
Participants preparing and trying to paint some simple shapes just to get the feel of painting with signpainting brushes.
And then, I handed them a ready made stencil which I made for them to trace on top of their final artwork and then painted. Participants get to pick their favourite letter and they are all printed and pounced individually by me. Pouncing meaning to create tiny dotted holes on the paper to be able to transfer onto the board.
And that's it. Whole workshop took a long 5 hours, but everyone enjoyed themselves and had lots of fun. They get to carry the signs they made home with them as well. Hope you enjoy reading this post!
